The Amazing Science of Staying Afloat: Why Boats Don't Just Sink!

Image
Ever wondered how those massive metal behemoths we call ships manage to gracefully glide across the water instead of plummeting to the depths? It's not magic, but it's definitely fascinating science! The secret lies in a powerful principle called buoyancy, championed by the ancient Greek genius, Archimedes. Unpacking Archimedes' Eureka Moment: The Buoyant Force Imagine dunking yourself in a bathtub – you probably feel a little lighter, right? That's the buoyant force at play! Archimedes' Principle states that when an object is submerged (partially or fully) in a fluid (like water), it experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. In simpler, more blog-friendly terms: the water pushes back up on the boat with a force equivalent to the weight of the water the boat's hull pushes out of the way. Buoyant = Weight of displaced water   The Delicate Dance: Buoyant Force vs. Gravity For a boat to float, this upward buoyant force has to tan...

The Versatile 20-inch Folding Bike: Your Ideal Urban Companion in 2025?

Image
Navigating the modern urban landscape demands adaptable and space-efficient transportation. The 20-inch folding bike featured in the image appears to be a compelling option for city dwellers and commuters. Its design and listed features suggest a focus on practicality and convenience for the year 2025. Let's explore the potential of such a folding bike. Initial Observations: Compact Design with Useful Features The primary appeal of this bike is its folding capability, a significant advantage for those with limited storage at home or work, and for seamless transitions with public transport. The 20-inch wheel size seems to strike a good balance between portability and a comfortable riding experience. Key attributes visible in the image include: 7-Speed Gear System: A 7-speed setup indicates the bike's ability to handle varied terrains, suitable for both flat urban roads and gentle slopes. Disc Brakes: The presence of disc brakes suggests reliable and consistent stopping power, ...

Turning Waste into Wattage: The Potential of Human Waste for Generating Electricity.

Image
Turning Waste into Wattage: The Potential of Human Waste for Generating Electricity. Human waste can be a valuable resource for generating electricity in a sustainable way. Anaerobic digestion breaks down organic matter in waste to produce biogas, which can be burned to generate electricity. Microbial fuel cells use bacteria to break down waste and produce electrical energy. These technologies not only help in waste management but also provide a renewable energy source.  By utilizing human waste for electricity generation, we can promote resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact associated with traditional waste disposal methods. Human waste can be used to produce biogas through a process called anaerobic digestion. In anaerobic digestion, microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas as a byproduct.  Biogas is mainly composed of methane and carbon dioxide, which can be used as a source of renewable energy. To create biogas from...

Mengubah Sisa Kepada Watt: Potensi Sisa Manusia untuk Menjana Elektrik.

Image
Biogas terutamanya...

Carbon Capture and Utilization Challenge

Image
Last week, I tried my luck at the Carbon Capture and Utilization Challenge, organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. See my profile at https://lnkd.in/gJppbpSh It's a simple yet effective integrated bio-sequestration device to capture, sequester, store and utilizing carbon dioxide in order to reduce carbon footprints. Don't expect anything. Just follow to challenge myself in creating and innovating while being able to add experience and knowledge. My contribution in this challenge is still under review. But if interested, you can see it at https://lnkd.in/gXPHY6RK
